In a move aimed at easing the pressure on Malaysia’s resources, Anwar highlighted the country’s efforts to work collaboratively with Myanmar on the voluntary and phased repatriation of refugees.

Discussions between Malaysia and Myanmar have resulted in an agreement to repatriate 5,000 refugees in stages. This collaboration is part of a broader strategy that includes stronger enforcement, enhanced coordination among government agencies, and increased cooperation with the countries of origin.

Anwar emphasized that the refugee issue has been a longstanding challenge for Malaysia, impacting its security, social services, and administrative systems. He assured that the government’s approach would adhere to national laws while also considering humanitarian aspects.

As repatriation efforts progress, Malaysia aims to ensure that the process remains both effective and humane, reflecting its commitment to international cooperation and internal stability.
