Indonesia has been awarded a prestigious AAA credit rating with a stable outlook from China’s Lianhe Credit Rating, positioning it favorably as the country prepares to issue its first Panda Bond in China’s domestic bond market. The government plans to raise $1 billion through this renminbi-denominated sovereign bond sale, set for July 23, making its debut in the Chinese onshore debt sector.
The Finance Minister, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, emphasized that the initial issuance is deliberately capped to assess investor interest, with the potential for larger offerings contingent on demand. This strategic move is expected to gauge the market and establish a foothold in China’s lucrative bond market.
The AAA rating is anticipated to enhance confidence among Chinese investors, providing a strong signal of Indonesia’s creditworthiness. This high rating is likely to attract substantial interest and support from investors, leveraging Indonesia’s economic stability and growth prospects.
Supporting the bond issuance, major financial institutions such as Bank of China and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) are set to serve as lead underwriters and bookrunners. Their involvement is crucial in facilitating the bond’s successful entry into the market, ensuring a smooth transaction process.
