This interaction, which occurred just before the forum’s opening, was seen as a sign of ongoing diplomatic dialogue between the two nations, despite existing border disputes. Photographs from the event captured the leaders sharing a handshake outside the main venue.
While Cambodian political analysts interpreted the encounter as a positive indication of active communication channels, Thai officials downplayed the significance, describing the interaction as a routine conversation held while waiting for the forum to commence. There was no formal bilateral meeting between the two leaders, according to Thai sources.
The ASEAN Future Forum, now in its third iteration, gathered regional leaders to deliberate on developmental priorities and enhance cooperation across Southeast Asia. Vietnamese leaders, during the proceedings, highlighted the necessity for the region to adapt to global changes and emphasized the importance of implementing long-term growth strategies.
Additionally, they called on ASEAN member states to transcend short-term political agendas and focus on fostering innovation. They also advocated for placing the younger generation at the forefront of future development initiatives. The Vietnamese representatives stressed that robust regional cooperation is essential for ASEAN to effectively face global challenges and seize new growth opportunities.
