Indonesia has embarked on the construction of the Masela LNG Project, a significant national strategic energy endeavor with an estimated value of $20.95 billion (Rp 390 trillion). This project, poised to enhance the country’s energy production, is anticipated to generate over $44 billion in state revenue throughout its operational life, thanks to contributions from direct and indirect taxes.
Upon reaching full operational capacity, the Masela LNG Project is set to produce an impressive 9.5 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually, accompanied by a daily output of 35,000 barrels of condensate. This development is expected to bolster Indonesia’s energy production capabilities significantly.
Job creation is a key aspect of the project, with approximately 12,000 positions projected during its construction phase. Once operational, it will maintain between 800 to 1,000 permanent jobs. The Indonesian government has stressed its commitment to prioritizing local talent, focusing on qualified individuals from the Tanimbar Islands and the broader Maluku region.
Situated in the Arafura Sea, roughly 150 kilometers south of Masela Island, the project not only aims to increase national energy output but also seeks to stimulate regional economic growth. It promises to enhance the welfare of local communities, providing new employment opportunities and fostering economic development in the region.
