Indonesia and Serbia have committed to enhancing their bilateral cooperation across several sectors, including trade, industrial development, food and energy security, and emerging technologies. This agreement was solidified during the fifth Bilateral Consultation Forum held in Jakarta.
As part of this expanded collaboration, Indonesia has invited Serbia to explore opportunities in mineral exploration, nickel processing, and electric vehicle supply chains. Discussions also encompassed the potential for cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence, data centers, semiconductors, and digital transformation.
Bilateral trade between the two countries has shown promising growth, increasing by an average of 20.62% annually from 2021 to 2025, and is projected to reach $53.6 million by 2025. Both nations have expressed interest in exploring a potential free trade agreement and establishing a joint economic commission to enhance trade and improve market access in Central and Eastern Europe.
Further discussions during the forum included investment opportunities and industrial production, as well as cooperation in employment. A significant point of agreement was the exploration of government-to-government arrangements aimed at strengthening the legal protection of Indonesian migrant workers in Serbia.
Both Indonesia and Serbia reaffirmed their commitment to respecting each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The two countries have agreed to convene the sixth Bilateral Consultation Forum in Serbia, with the date yet to be announced.
