Vietnam and Malaysia are making strides to enhance their defence cooperation, aiming to fortify bilateral relations and bolster regional stability. This initiative was underscored during discussions in Hanoi between Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, General Phan Văn Giang, and Malaysia’s outgoing Ambassador, Dato’ Tan Yang Thai.
General Giang commended the ambassador for his pivotal role in advancing cooperation between the two nations. He noted significant progress in their defence relationship, marked by regular military exchanges, policy discussions, and training collaborations. Both countries have also been coordinating at international and multilateral forums, reflecting their growing partnership.
The Vietnamese defence minister emphasized the importance of building on existing agreements and enhancing engagement through high-level meetings and defence cooperation mechanisms. He extended an invitation to Malaysia’s defence leaders and companies to join the Vietnam International Defence Expo 2026, which is scheduled to take place in Hanoi.
Ambassador Tan Yang Thai expressed his gratitude to Vietnam’s defence ministry and military for their support throughout his tenure. He conveyed hopes for the continued growth of defence ties between Vietnam and Malaysia, which he believes will contribute to peace and prosperity in the region.
